Leesburg Junction Speaker Series: W&OD Trail: How It Came to Be..

Our beloved W&OD Trail has a beginning and an end: from Alexandria to Purcellville. Ever wonder how the whole thing began? It started in 1968 with an idea, and took the passion and vision of a volunteer, Barbara Hildreth, to lead the effort. To oversee the development of the Trail, Barbara served on the Board of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (now NOVA Parks) for 11 years. Join us as Barbara, the “Mom of the W&OD Trail”, recounts how a good idea became the skinniest park in the NOVA Parks system, spurring a commuter alternative, economic development, and a connected community along its 45 miles.
